  • Is this the dullest book in the world?

This is probably the dullest, most pretentious book I've ever read. It's a showcase for Fry to boast about his knowledge of the history and mechanics of poetry, laden with snobbery. Think of the most boring teacher you ever suffered at school and you'll have a pretty good idea of the tone that he adopts. He ever sets his readers homework! Seriously. Be warned: Anyone thinking of having a go at writing verse for themselves will think twice after reading this unappealing drivel. Stephen Fry admits he is not a published poet. It's easy to see why.

  • Brilliant. Well done, Stephen, again!

Engrossing, extremely helpful, amusing, what else is new? I'm learning a lot, and very grateful.

  • Not the Road for this Ode Bloke

It's not what I expected it to be. Too dry, too uninteresting - definitely not Stephen's best book, sadly.
