There is not much difference between the 1st and 2nd editions just a couple of super rare species you are not going to see anyway.It's so much better than my old Collins Hermann Heinzel illustrated guide which was by far the best in it's day.I managed to purchase this 1st edition at a really good price and it shall easily fulfill all my bird watching identification needs.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

This is without doubt, one of the finest, most comprehensive field guides for birds of the U.K. and Europe. I purchased this edition for a Dutch neighbour who had a Dutch equivalent so he could compare from the Latin index at the back of each book. This is the most comprehensive to the birds of Britain and Europe, that I have come across. It’s beautifully illustrated with several views of each bird.
