  • You might have to make an educated guess ...

Firstly, the heading on the seller's post was a tad misleading - the word "good" refers to the book's condition, rather than its contents. Having said that, some of the stories in this volume really are a bit "creep", if not all of them. There's a very subjective foreword by someone called Fred Urquhart, of whom I've never even heard, and there's no explanation or accreditation. Who is this chap, and what's his authority for writing the introduction? Was he best friends with one of the authors whose short stories are included? Or the publisher? Anyway, in general the stories are quite gripping, and one or two even make you stop and think, which is always a good sign. One downside is the quality of the printing, and of the paper. In places, the printer's ink has smudged so badly that you have to make an educated guess at what might be written there, and another idiosyncrasy is that occasionally a letter seems to have jumped from one line to another, where it clearly doesn't belong. Creepy or what?! I haven't double-checked to see if it's always jumped to the same place, or whether it changes its mind from time to time. Now that *would* be creepy! All in all, it's a good read, it won't keep you awake at night, but it might make you wonder about that fleeting shape that crossed your eyepath (until you realise it was a floater in your eye).
