  • A writer with no understanding

Tom Wolfe was recommended by Jeremy Clarkson as the best book he’d ever read. As a huge fan of Clarkson’s writing I felt compelled to buy it . It is erudite, no question, it deals with the state of mind of American pilots who volunteered for the early space missions. It gloryfies their exploits and completely ignores any moral issues concerning the reasons for these pointless exercises of American Imperialism, an individual bravery.Unfortunately its blathering on and on and on about the heroic deeds of these brave ( i say foolish naive men) completely negates any value this book may have had. It is no surprise to me, that Clarkson , thinks this book is fantastic as his naive, political and ignorant views perfectly reflect wolfe’s. Over and above this , the writing is , frankly, boring with superfluous facts that nobody but an idiot, could find interesting. You want to know what chauvinism is in its most boring form, read this book .
