The stories of the people Jennie meets in Poplar are moving, numerous, and riveting.. She includes details of the living conditions as well as medical challenges she faces as a new midwife. I feel as though I lived with her through the scenes she describes from the prostitution in Cable Street to the Quayside tenements.
