  • Were you a teenager in the 70/80’s? Then this book is for you.

Stuart Maconie writes with wit, charm and an engaging reverie about his, mine and probably your, teenage years. This book is about growing up in a northern town in the Thatcherite era. But instead of the cliched brooding, dark ‘grim up north’ narrative, this autobiography soars upwards. Stuart found music, the same as an awful lot of us did. Be it punk, prog, northern soul, disco, it was our grounding, our meaning, sometimes our and his way out. It is witty, beautifully written and a real snap shot of social history in the life of a regular youth of that age, trying to find his way in a time of difficult social and musical change. This book will make you smile, and stair wistfully into the distance as you remember those times, now largely gone. A time of exciting musical happenings, shiftings. Pints, live bands and awakenings in all things. A great read and a definite recommend.
