Strange political story with romance incorporated.
The story matches our times. It's a science fiction novel but elements of the story are same or similar to events and societal structures of today. It's as if Orwell was trying to predict future. thought provoking read but not really of ledgend status IMHO.
after all the legend status and hype this book has recieved over the decade,s i did find it a bit unexciting, i find lots of huge gaps in the story and a lot of "setting the scene". the overall message is spookily accurate as to what is happening in this country today, maybe the government has taken it as a bluepring of how to keep us plebs under controll ?.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

A year to remember (or is it?!)
This is classed as one of the classics and as it was written a long time before 1984 some of George Orwells foresight is spooky. The tale itself is vicious and depressing and I found it hard going and was happy to get to the end. I nearly gave up on a few occasions but made myself carry on with it. I'm very glad that the current world is not a world like 1984 but sometimes, items on the t.v. and things that happen are quite scarily near to the storyline.
