In the mid-sixties, Simon Dee had it all: a primetime BBC TV chat show, Dee Time, on Saturday nights regularly viewed by 15 million people, with its opening credits showing him driving an open-top sharkfin Cadillac surrounded by nubile blondes; a part in the Italian job - all the fame in the world as one of the coolest figureheads of the Swinging Sixties. Before this, he had been one of the pioneering disc jockeys on Radio Caroline. Then an ill-judged defection to ITV was followed by sacking, bankruptcy, a spell in jail...and suddenly Simon Dee was a name no more.
