No way out but through....
I first read this book many years ago, but I bought it again this time for a friend. It tells the story of real-life painter Mary Ann Willson (Patience) who lived with her companion Miss Brundage (Sarah) as a "farmerette" in early 19th century Conneticut in the USA. The story is a gentle one, but one of great courage and following the heart in a time when men were men and women were either silent and/or servile to their men and lesbianism was at best nervously laughed at as unbelievable. Isabel Miller writes with humour, compassion and passion. One day maybe this will be made into a most worthy film.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
