Product Information

WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY HOWARD JACOBSON Explosive, subversive, wild and funny, 50 years on the novel's strength is undiminished. Reading Joseph Heller's classic satire is nothing less than a rite of passage. Set in the closing months of World War II in an American bomber squadron off the coast of Italy, Catch-22 is the story of a bombardier named Yossarian who is frantic and furious because thousands of people he has never even met keep trying to kill him. Joseph Heller's bestselling novel is a hilarious and tragic satire on military madness, and the tale of one man's efforts to survive it.

    Loved it.

A complicated and very interesting book. Gives a great, somewhat cynical slant on the Air War from the point of view of a bomber crew member.

  • Most critical review

Good price, shame about the content.

It'd be a dull world if we all liked the same things, but I can't understand why folk think this is a brilliant satire. I found it amusing at first, but it got so extremely unbelievable as to just be silly. And a bit long-winded. On the plus side, the book itself was in reasonable condition and very cheap

  • Catch 22

Bought to replace a long lost copy so familiar with content. Disappointed with condition of book which was described (seemingly like all the others!) as 'good'.

  • Best book that I have ever read

This is without a doubt the best book that I have ever read. I have read it 6 times already and have recently bought it again to read. There are passages that may be tough going, either skip a bit or come back to it. It is well worth it. Or maybe it is just my weird military sense of humour ??

Have had not had time to really get into this book but it is compelling from the beginning and life can often be a catch 22 so a must read
