An interesting and thorough historical account of the medical practitioners primarily "North of the Border". This treatise has a heavy emphasis on their various attempts to achieve recognition as official legal bodies as colleges or guilds, with varying levels of success. Of definite interest to the medical historian who wishes to better understand the levels of demarcation of roles and the social status of medical practitioners from this era. Also of interest to re-eanctors and historical interpreters to get a feel for the period and strictures under which these folk practiced. I found it a little light in terms of information on the training of these practitioners and somewhat lacking details on the relevant medical knowledge of the day, but otherwise a solid reference book, and well written with an engaging and personal style.Read full review
