Excellent autobiography
It's a superb autobiography of Britains last hangman. The man himself did not think hanging served any purpose at all, and disagreed with it. He also went to various countries to train up their hangmen. He was sick of hearing tales of executed persons having their heads pulled off when too much drop was used, a most unpleasant occurrence. He packed it in as one county refused to pay his fee due to a stay of execution, it had always been agreed he would still receive his fee. Excellent book to read, and the best on this man, being an autobiography, and not what some author THOUGHT he thought and did

Autobiography Review
This book is an excellent insight into the mind of a humble man. From his youth he was determined to follow in his Father's footsteps. Albert matures and gains the respect and admiration of those associated with his profession. He becomes a Master of his craft. His is one of those rare examples that inspire others to better themselves. Not for the faint hearted.

Sensitive and compelling
This is a very factual sensitive book which shows that the author is at pains to avoid any sensationalism. Pierrepoint was a true professional who brought dignity and compassion to a job very few people could do.
