About this product

Product Information

The highly acclaimed BBC Radio 4 production starring Tom Baker, Jack Shepherd, Frank Windsor and Samuel West. It is 18 February 1943, and RAF Lancaster bomber WF 183 - call sign O-Orange - is about to set off on its final mission. It is a raid which will touch the lives of hundreds: the civilians in the small German town of Altgarten, consumed by blazing fire, and the crews, both German and British, men and women. It is a night of horror that few will forget When the gripping dramatised version of Bomber was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4, it was transmitted in 'real time' throughout the day, to incredible critical and audience response. Tom Baker is the Commentator, and an all-star cast includes Jack Shepherd, Frank Windsor, Samuel West, Emma Chambers, Brian Murphy and Michael Troughton. Bomber is a thrilling, action-packed and ultimately poignant story that will stay in the listener's imagination for a long time to come.

  • Outstanding - unhesitatingly recommended

Outstanding performance. This should be compulsory listening on the National Curriculum for History. If your teenager has ever asked "what was the war like?", this would be a very good answer. It was even more impressive when split up into its original 15-minute "slots" & played in "real time" over the whole day, but it retains its power when played in a single sitting (though if you've been playing it over a long drive, it might be worth taking 5 minutes to reset your mood before getting to your destination). Unhesitatingly recommended.

  • Firestorm coming closer ....

Stunning adaptation of Deighton's incredible and underrated work . Everyone should read it or at the very least check this out . There are many differences between the adaptation and the book but none detrimental. The interview segments with veterans are poignant and informative. This is time well spent .

  • Heavyweight,packed with pure emotion

Has been on radio but I rate this version better. It builds up into a crescendo of compelling listening, I found myself moving my head nearer the cd player and moaning with different emotions. This cd is a must for everyone.
