Product Information
In August 1991, while taking photographs in Arizona, Michael Ormerod was killed in a road accident. Born in Cheshire in 1947, America had become the main focus of his private work and he made a number of trips there, drawn particularly by the light and space of the landscape. This book contains Ormerod's photographs which avoid the hurly-burly of social interaction and present, instead, an America of lost horizons. Ormerod used his camera to describe the in-between places, the outskirts of towns, the sides of roads, places where the natural landscape is at odds with the man-made environment. There is very little communal activity depicted in his work; he has concentrated more on individual moments of introspection, and on scenes where it is the traces of human loss or endeavour that evoke an emotional presence. Jan Morris is the author of Sydney and is a well-known travel writer. John Roberts is a well-known photography critic.Product Identifiers
