A wonderful time machine of a book taking you to an alien world of the past where everything was different.
Beautifully written, expertly researched and really compelling "A World Lit Only By Fire" travels into the real lives of a wide cross section of medieval society, not just, as is so often the case, the rich and famous. A "sex and drugs and rock n roll" portrait of a world so different from our own in so many fundamental ways that stagger as well as inform. Great book.
