As a fan I was determined to continue reading this book but I felt that this one plodded along and lacked the enthusiasm of the previous ones. In fact, it felt something of a repeat of the third book, which wasn't exactly great itself. Although I enoyed it eventually I was glad to finish this one and move on the next book in the series.

I have the full set now. For anyone who loves the tv series, I would say these books are also well worth having. The storylines differ a lot from the tv, but they still have the laconic black humoured narration from our favourite serial killer. Funniest difference is, in the books Sgt Doakes is not killed off, but instead ends up having his hands, feet and tongue removed (not by choice I hasten to add!) So he now has to use a voice synthesiser: a joyful voice tells Dexter "I'm STILL watching you, m*****f*****!" Classic!
