About this product

Product Information

This facsimile edition of a British Intelligence Sub-Committee (BIOS) Report comprises a series of tests carried out by vehicle or component manufacturers, describing the performance and design of the Volkswagen, or German people's car. Designed chiefly by Dr Porsche, the car was to go into production in 1939, but as a wartime measure a modified vehicle was commissioned for the German army. Besides being a technical design report, the book helps to place the eponymous Beetle in its historical context. The appendix includes a translation of how to purchase the car using #85 worth of saving stamps.

  • The title says it all, with good content in the book.

A very interesting book, giving the views of various motor manufacturers in the uk as to the worth or not of the Beetle. Not surprisingly, their reaction was not favourable; they didn't want a former enemy becoming a competitor to the uk car industry. If you're interested in the more technical aspects, it's an absorbing read on the beginnings of a car that became a world wide phenomenon.
