The Forever War was written by a Vietnam war veteran, and is often described as a reply to Starship Troopers. It follows the story of a conscripted soldier from his first days of training until he's released from service after a number of battles. The effects of time dilation due to travelling close to the speed of light gives the book it's title. This is the first complete edition of The Forever Wars. For some reason a chunk of the story was missing when the book was first published, this book has the missing chapter. I would definitely recommend this book to any fan of classic sci-fi as well as anyone wanting to explore ideas about the changing society in the post Vietnam US when this book was written.

An original storyline and thoroughly enjoyable read. Interesting to see future predictions based on someone writing in the 70's. The author is particularly good at highlighting man's worst traits in a satirical manner, and it is easy to see the parallels with his experiences in the Vietnam war. I'd recommend this book if you want something a bit different and not too heavy to digest. Non-scifi fans will find this a good read too as the main character's development and experiences are easy to relate to.
