The Dragons series by Anne McCaffrey is excellent fantasy, well written, full of action with memorable characters. Pern is a lost Earth colony ravaged by threadfall, spores from another planet in the system. Every few hundred years the red planet is close enough to Pern for the spores to travel through space and attack. Over the centuries all advanced technology has fallen out of use leaving the colonists in a Medieval kind of society. The main defences against the spores are the dragons and their riders, burning it midair before it can land and kill everything living it finds. This one concerns a sport, an unusual dragon with unusual potential, unlike the other dragons, which can be gold queens, bronze males, green sterile females and browns. I would highly recommend reading the books in series order starting with Dragonflight in order to understand the society on Pern and how it became what it is. An excellent series of books from one of the top writers in the genre.Read full review

As always Anne mccaffrey is as excellent a writer now as she was when she first started. The dragons of pern series is a must for readers of all ages. An un put down able book . The white dragon is small but feisty and makes you believe in these fabled creatures.
