  • Charming, well illustrated, but factually inaccurate

I read this book with my son who had studied Mary Anning at infant school. The book is written in a beautiful way and the pictures are colourful and evocative. The language was of the right difficulty for a seven year old of modest reading ability. However, my son kept correcting and adding detail to the story! The book deal with the death of Mary Anning's father in a gentle way. The story ends with the finding of the fossil "sea monster" but does not deal with Mary's subsequent struggle for recognition. So more a "true story" than a history of Mary Anning. Quite a few aspects are factually incorrect. Overall, good but disappointing.

  • Brilliant book

My 6 year old has been learning this book at school, so bought it for her as she loves it so much. It's a brilliant book and would recommend any parent to read this to their child if they haven't already.
