This is a wonderful book. Having read it I bought a copy for my friend and she in turn is passing it on. My husband has also read it and was entranced. Once I had finished the story I booked a holiday for us to Guernsey. I had last visited in 1987 and then saw it through the eyes of my 3 young sons. Now we intend to revisit it and view it through the historical period covered in the book - the German Occupation of 1941. The story is told through a series of letters from its inhabitants to an authoress and takes place in 1946, This format does not diminish the book in the least. It is crammed with a myriad of wonderful characters. You won't fail to be entranced.
A gentle tale that will keep you hooked from the beginning. The characters are believable, interesting and will keep you turning the pages to find out more. An excellent book full of descriptive writing, a good story and a happy ending! What more could you want?

I wasn't sure I would like this story written as a series of letters from the different characters but I did very much. The letters flow in date order and each character contributes their bit to the story, written in a different style & so well reflecting on each of the characters personality. It is so well written, funny, sad, quirky and quite informative of the history and events of the Guernsey occupation. I very much enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

I saw this book advertised and wanted to read it. The book is a lovely story and set, in the Second World War. I am thoroughly enjoying it and would recommend any one who loves history and romance to give it a try.
