Select Guide Rating From the Author Forget the books that celebrate the Parisian Art Deco style - this book introduces the real homes of inter-war Britain. About the Author Dr Greg Stevenson is an architectural heritage consultant and lectures at the University of Wales, Lampeter. Excerpt. Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. More dream homes were constructed in the 1930s than have been built in any decade since. Many people became home-owners for the first time during the inter-war period and the four million houses that were erected to home them largely adopted new architectural styles. These styles varied from sleek modernist villas to 'Tudorbethan' semi-detached houses, and also a host of homes that blended the traditional and modern.
This small brochure/book transported me back to homes smelling of wooden floor wax polish, disinfectant , open coal fires and beef roasting.Gosh, how primitive it seems now, but how homely. It's good to see how the houses worked for us though. In excellent condition.
