  • Essential for Caillebotte and fascinating to those who know him not at all.

There are very few books about Caillebotte and this one utilising a major exhibition and the writer,s rich knowledge of the painter can be considered the essential starting point. The illustrations are plentiful and the analysis interesting and much to the point. I wish I had had a copy before any of the interpretive and theoretical books on Caillebotte I have. Friends had not heard of the man and have very much enjoyed looking at the pictures and the relationship of some to Paris streets and buildings. I recommend this book to anyone interested in paintings and/or the 19th Century in France. As a man not a painter Caillebotte is also most interesting and there is of course his relationship with the "Impressionists". The book was in perfect condition.
