A very interesting historical account of Venice, told by by a current eminent Venetian - without the usual stuffiness associated with such offerings!
Francesco's Venice was a four-part BBC television documentary series hosted by Francesco da Mosto's anecdotes from his own experiences and family history. This book of the same name was published to accompany the series in 2004, and is a must read for anybody with the remotest interest in this great city. Whilst the TV series was a visual and audible delight for the senses, this book has more than matched it in its content, readability and in general - some very good photographs. Both products give the same intriguing insight into Venice's past and present, as told by an equally interesting and affable historical "host". The story of Serenissima is told with consummate ease, handled with love and displays Francesco's growing concern as to the future vulnerabilities of Venice.
