Read the book years ago - wanted to re-visit but no sign of the book so ordered this second-hand copy. Somewhat yellowed but in good order and perfectly readable. It had a German's ex libris stamp and the first few pages had lightly pencilled translations of colloquial words and phrases and then the owner clearly gave up. This highlighted how Laurie Lee used both slightly poetic phrases and local usages to re-create evocatively his rural childhood in the Slad Valley. I was interested that he uses the phrase "I've got a bone in my leg" which was unknown to my Yorkshire wife to me (Devon born and bred) meant "I've got a painful leg."
