Superb 'Picture book' plus fascinating insights.
I have seen this book for sale online, but no one was able to tell me what I wanted to know about it.
It is a large book, 33.5 cms long by 27cms tall and has 160 pages.
The pages are matte, and the binding is sewn, so this book will not lose pages, as can happen with glued in pages.
The illustrations are full page, with a colour reproduction of Cuneo's artwork on the left hand page, and a description and many sketches and information about that artwork/poster on the right hand page.
It shows preliminary sketches and photographs.
As an example, I will use the poster ''On Early Shift'' which a family member bought.
The poster is shown in the book, not in it's entirety, but concentrates on the Signalman and approaching A4 Pacific.
On the left hand page is a B&W photograph of Cuneo sketching a signalman at work, and there is a sketch showing the correct colours of the levers and dials so Cuneo gets them right when working up the colour painting.
It also gives an anecdote that could have cost Cuneo his life while researching for this painting, a terrifying experience in a tunnel in the days of steam.
This is a really beautiful book, easy to read, the text isn't dense, but broken up with B&W photographs and sketches.
An ideal 'picture book' for the Railway enthusiast.
The original Cuneo posters now sell for hundreds, if not thousands of pounds for the rarer issues, and this book fills in the background information for collectors.
For those who don't yet have a collection, or who love a nostalgic wallow about the days of Steam, and Pre Beeching days, buy this with confidence.

It is worth noting that when buying from Ebay/Abe books that the book in the advert/listing may not be the exact one you receive.
Sometimes generic pictures of the books are posted.
Check with the seller beforehand if you are unsure.
One person's ''good'' may be anothers' ''terrible'' condition wise, but generally I have been lucky buying second hand books from Ebay and Abe.
One question you may not think of asking is ''does the book smell''?
I recently had a 1970's book that smelled really musty.
If this bothers you, also check beforehand.
