Having joined the corporation during World War Two, Alec Weeks rose through the ranks of radio, working on classic shows like ITMA and Children's Hour . His memoirs of some of those early encounters beautifully evoke the style of the period and the various characters who worked for Auntie (the BBC) during the pioneering days. In the 1950s, Weeks moved into television production and began to specialise in sport - football in particular: he was involved in Match of the Day from its inception and was responsible for producing the coverage of six World Cups from 1966 onwards.
