I read all these books as a child. So now at the age of 80 I thought I would revisit them.

Always my favourite Enid Blyton book and I have enduring memories of the Famous Five's visit to Kirrin Island. When we were children Enid Blyton regularly came to Corfe Castle and Swanage and signed our copies of her books in a lovely book shop called 'Hill and Churchill' which smelt of pristine new books and furniture polish. So it is with much pleasure that I now have a brand new copy with the evocative original Eileen Soper illustrations in it. My grandchildren love it, and of course we know that Enid Blyton 'took' Corfe Castle ruins and placed them on her Kirrin Island- you only have to look at the islands around Poole Harbour to see where her mindset was when she wrote it! So the story is totally authentic for us Dorset story lovers. Thank you for the book which goes into my collection of 21 original Enid Blyton books. I don't want any of the 'new' ones that have been written- just the old.Read full review
