Hardened steel shackle. I usually like combination lock better but this is the best alternative. This chain lock is great! It's a bit heavy but when I lock my bike I have piece of mind that it's safe.

It pays to buy a well known & trusted brand

Good Silver Grade Lock for motorbikes though a bit heavy for bicycles
Very heavy, rust resistant and an adequate lock from a reliable manufacturer. Not gold grade... check your motorcycle insurance documentation... Won't protect you from a skag head with 5 minutes to spare and nothing to lose.
