    The Best Pool Cover Pump

We had a Little Giant in the past, but tried to get by with the cheaper Lowe's type pumps etc. None compare with the quality and reliability of this pump. Franklin Electric (Bluftton, Ind.) has been making submersible pumps for over 60 years and it shows. This is a moderately heavy well designed pump with a good leaf/debri strainer and has worked flawlessly. Being automatic is crucial for winter time maintenance. Thanks. Tom T.

Very strong pump but not durable not worth the money

I bought this pump broken for parts.. I have a working one also. The pump looks new no fading you can read all the original numbers and letters. I took the pump apart the cord wasn,t pulled out of the clamp that holds it. Then I took the top cover off the plastic housing it has a micro switch for the magnetic float this is where the damage is it was corroded and water was inside I sprayed some electrical cleaner in it and turned it upside this is when water ran out. There are 2-ways water could have gotten in the cover has a large o-ring or the cord that comes up from the bottom with a slit hard rubber seal this is where I think it failed the cord seal it is pressed in so you have to destroy the plastic housing to get it out. I am going to drill a small hole in the seal and screw in a drywall screw and spray the seal with lube let it sit then pull out the seal.If you want a warranty you have to buy new from an authorized dealer. There are only a few things you can repair on this a broken float, micro switch and the electrical plug you could repair cord as long as it is not spliced near the pump. The only parts they sell are the float and the plastic filter but the switch can be replaced. Just another disposable consumer product. Today I drilled the white round part inside it goes around the cord I found out it is nylon plastic and the seal for the power cord is the rubber boot around the cord that is on the inside as well. Then I took off the large o-ring around the motor and I banged it around until it broke loose then pried it out of housing. Water came running out the motor it was all rusted it looked like it was under water real garbage the motor was even a cheap unsealed unit. Unless you have money to burn save it.

  • pool cover pump

Great so far, haven't had it long, but for the time I have it works great. I had a rule pump before that I can not talk bad about it, although I had it, and left it out all winter for seven years, and it worked flawlessly, but after seven years, it just wore out. I found this one, and it's a bit heavier weight wise, and the wind don't blow it around like the rule, and it appears to be heavier duty then the rule, but time will tell. There was already water on my cover when I got this one and it drained it in no time, and it kicked on whenever water would surround it, and when the cover was empty, it shut off and has not come on since. I use the same one inch hose on this one as I did on the rule, and it works great. All in all, I'm happy I bought this one, and does a fantastic job, but you do have to clean the leaves, and debris away from the suction so its not hard on the pump. That's part of the longevity, is to keep it clean, and do the same at the end of the season and put it in the box, and back on the shelf, and your good until next year. Don't be afraid to buy this brand, it is under warranty should you have an issue. I forgot to tell about the suction, we drain our pool about one and a half, feet below the rim, and the one inch hose we use is thirty three feet long, and this pump has no problem draining, and the water comes out like a fire hose. The pump is made for a in ground pool cover, but it works super good on our above ground pool. I hope this helps for someone seriously looking for a good pump.

  • The Little Giant Delivers BIG Results!

Had a smaller, cheaper pump that got frequently clogged and lasted just a couple of seasons. You truly get what you pay for most of the time. The Little Giant is extremely well built and has a large channeling area at the base that is less suseptible to clogging. The regular hose adapter does restrict the flowrate but is very acceptable for what it's designed for. If I have any complaint at all it's that the Little Giant is a little heavy. I have a safty cover on a large pool and it depresses the cover more than I'd like.

  • Good design, good quality & good performance

This was a replacement for a similar model that I got in 2012 and used for 8 seasons. The capacitor failed in March, but I have ordered a new part from Singapore and plan to repair it as, apart from some corrosion on the pump housing, it is still in good shape and was working well until the capiacitor failed. The original pump was made in Italy so sourcing an OEM Ducati capacitor was challenging. The replacement pump looks identical but is "made in China" . It performs well and hopefully will last as long as the original. It is a good design and pretty robust. I live in Canada and found it's worth shopping around for this pump with prices and shipping costs varying significantly. Purchasing from a US Supplier including shipping and taxes it was 1/3 the cost quoted by my pool regular supply company.

  • Very reliable, long-lasting cover pump

We have had three of these pumps over the past 16 years. They are reliable, keep the pool cover drained of water automatically, and last for three to four seasons. After our first one died, we were sold a different make and model of pump, and it didn't even make it through one summer. It was replaced under warranty, and that one also didn't last for a full season. Forget it!!! We went back to our original and have not been disappointed. I just purchased our fourth Little Giant, anticipating that our current one might be giving up the ghost sometime since this is its fourth summer, but it's still going strong. I highly recommend this pump!

  • Forgiving little pump and your moneys worth .

I have 12 pools to manage and this' Little Giant ' does amazing job and does not burn out like the cheaper ones , forgiving and easy to clean . We get about 3 to 4 years out of these units , unlike the cheaper that last 1/2 of one season . Between the elements Sun , Chlorine , Salt and twigs / leaves they get a lot of abuse . Great for a automatic covered pool . A Dolphin bottom cleaner is the next must have !

  • Pool cover pump

This pump is easy to install and remove from the cover. It is by far the best and most efficient pump I have ever had. I had a lot of rain while I was waiting for the pump to arrive ,when it got here it made quick work of the huge pond of water on the cover. I was amazed and fully recommend this pump.

  • Powerful and low profile.

Did my research and found this pump to be rated one of the best. Pump is low profile and sits on cover firmly. Love the automatic feature, very powerful compared to my old pump, and has long cord to keep plug out of water. Have only had it 2 weeks, but works great so far.

  • A Pool Cover Pump Worthy of the Name

I was looking for a replacement pool cover pump as my old one died. I have a large 40 foot by 20 foot pool and I needed a strong enough pump. I was quite pleased that this Little Giant Pump has the mighty horse power to get it done. I wish I had bought one of these years ago.
