  • The Handmaid's Tale

Written in the 1980's The Handmaid's Tale depicts a future ruled by religious extremists - men who mostly have a low sperm count and their wives who are barren. They require the Handmaids to bear them children. Offred the lady who is narrating the book reminds us of her past life when she was married with a child. Her child has been taken and her husband presumed dead. She is now the handmaid of the Commander (Fred). Really beautiful writing by Margaret Attwood. Creepy but brilliant.
