    Old timer carving knife

I do I a lot of woodcarving and have a lot of different knives. I was looking for something that had a little of everything. I couldn’t afford the high priced ones by other companies. I belong to a carving group and a lot of them also have this knife. To be honest not everyone is satisfied with it. I was given many reviews about it. Some said that it came very dull and required a lot of work just to get it sharp and then to keep it sharp would require a lot of work as well. Then there were others that really loved it. They did caution about how the blades don’t lock but if you carve the right way it shouldn’t be a issue. Just watch what you are doing. Stroop and use the honing compound to keep it sharp and it will last you a long time. I thought about these reviews. For the price I paid if I had to work on keeping it sharp I wouldn’t mind. When I got the knife in the mail and first used it on basswood it cut through it like it was butter. All the different tools were really well made and to me seemed very sharp. I am really happy with this knife and have told many other carvers about it. I even shared the link to the link were I bought mine. For under $17 you just can’t go wrong with this all in one knife.

big space not put to gether good enough needed more regular knife blades also .big knife under kill on needs

.big knife under kill on needing more needs=knife blades put in. this way together like that was wasted in space needs the other 3 blades a mans knife . just a big waste of space and not that great of steel for the job ! should pay you to have it and take up your space. in my younger days 70's old timer ment something now it means blades that bend like a pop can .nothing like buck or case and some others i like and have that you can trust for a mans knife.when a blade bends thats just sick and wrong .

  • Nicely made and very useful

This is a bit of niche product with only a few alternatives at much higher prices. It's well built and nicely finished but it's not a perfect product either. It would be nice if it had locking tools but it wasn't very expensive and it's not a major problem. You do have to be careful with the chisel type tools though. The tools come sharp, but not razor sharp and while that doesn't matter to me usually as it's easy enough to fix the edge on a standard knife, sharpening these tools is tricky. I saw a review somewhere saying that the bevel should be on the other side of the edge and I think that would be a good idea. Overall, it's great value as you get the same sort of functionality as a flexcut at a fraction of the cost.

  • Old timer multi carving tool

Just received this knife the other day. Pulled it out of the package to use it, and it didn't come very sharp. After I spent a little time with my strop it sharpened right up and cuts well. Even with all the added attachments contained within the handle it's still quite comfortable. This will definitely be the knife that I keep in my backpack for carving in the woods when I go hiking or camping.

  • You can not beat the price.! Quality tool

You can not beat the price. I'll be getting a third one for my other friend. We are making spoons out of drift wood for our first projects . The blades are obviously not flat so sharpening will take some patience and practice but so does whitteling. Have fun! It's very relaxing.

  • A capable cousin of the Carvin Jack minus a few important attributes

A reasonable facsimile of the idea of the Carvin' Jack, which I also own, with the bone handle here instead of the wood clad handle of Jack. This knife is actually a lot less stiff than the Carvin' Jack, but the Carvin' Jack has locked/pressure release heads & blade, which is definitely safer when working with instruments as sharp as these.

  • Great craft knife

If hiking or cutting things is your thing, or you like whittling or carving for fun, this multitool is the perfect portable all in one mini carving tool. Multiple chisels, v-tools, curve blade to make spoons, and a small blade. They are beveled really nicely and only took a few minutes, maybe ten to sharpen all the ends to razor precision. Very happy with purchase and may buy another to keep at work specifically or in a hiking bag.

  • Buy American

Uncomfortable shape makes for sore hands. The blades dont lock which in my opinion make it unsafe. Not worth the stitches ! It seemed fairly sharp out of the box but the main blade has already started to loosen ever so slightly. I'm replacing this knife with the very expensive American made version that this knife tried to be.

  • Sadly, Not my Father’s Old Timer

I was very disappointed with this purchase. Protruding pins with sharp edges got my attention while removing the wrappings. The blades are very dull with an excessive amount of tool marks on the edge grindings. They have the overall feel of stampings. Squared edges of scales and bolsters make it uncomfortable for my hands and my pocket.
