Good adaption
A compilation of the four comic run from Marvel, this was published as an annual in 1981. Competently adapted by Simonson, with decent art by Buscema (even if Jones never looks like Harrison Ford), this elaborates in some areas (it explains the map at the beginning and the link with Satipo and Barranca) but then completely changes other area. The Arab swordsman doesn’t appear in Cairo, nor does the fight with Pat Roach’s German mechanic, the desert chase completely ignores the under-the-lorry-and-back-over sequence and Jones threatening to blow up the Ark happens at the ceremony site, rather than the valley. For all that, as it was read deep into a Raiders jag I found myself happily involved with, this a good fun read (my first time) and told the story perfectly in graphic format. If you’re an Indy fan, I’d very much recommend it.
