Author: Jared Diamond ISBN 10: 0140279512. Will be clean, not soiled or stained. Books will be free of page markings.
From groundbreaking writer and thinker Jared Diamond comes an epic, visionary new book on the mysterious collapse of past civilizations - and what this means for our future. Why do some societies flourish, while others founder? What happened to the people who made the forlorn long-abandoned statues of Easter Island or to the architects of the crumbling Maya pyramids? Will we go the same way, our skyscrapers one day standing derelict and overgrown like the temples at Angkor Wat? Bringing together new evidence from a startling range of sources and piecing together the myriad influences, from climate to culture, that make societies self-destruct, Collapse also shows how unlike our ancestors we can benefit from our knowledge of the past and learn to be survivors.
Now a well known book - exceptionally good value second hand via eBay. Pretty well up to expectations. Could be slightly fewer words in places and economics not always impeccable, but a mine of interesting knowledge, experience, and sensitive observation.
Amazing book ,should be used as a text book in all schools to grasp aa understanding of how and why society has changed , and the effects the
Present pandemic is leaving our society
Fascinating, immense range of information and depth of thought!
Amazing book, my second copy. Gives in depth but clear and readable introduction to environmental dangers using both ancient and current examples, and drawing on an incredible range of interests and sources to support this. It is neither bland or scaremongering, and takes a realistic view of the need to balance human needs with environmental awareness, and provides a great insight into environmental Archaeology into the bargain. As well as all this, Diamond retains a wry sense of humour, keeping what could be a rather dry and depressing subject from stopping the reader in their tracks.
It is a book that teaches you whit entertaining stories.
Great book. Tells you in a way that it is easy to understand what is going on with the societies, and why are those things happening. He shows us an objective view even though he uses his own experiences and feelings.
It is a must read book if you would like to understand how things are happening and how can be there a change in things.
