Game changing piece of kit. Used to use a petrol long reach trimmer but since I only need to trim a very large amount of conifers twice a year it was a faff. The petrol was also very heavy and cumbersome, not to mention loud and necessitated having spare petrol and two stroke oil lying around. The Dewalt long reach trimmer is relatively light for what it is, I did a lot of research into long reach trimmers and many of them suffer with a lot of weight at the head end. This is actually very balanced and easy to handle. Don't get me wrong, you DO need a good deal of core strength to use one of these! It is also not too noisy either, given that it's electric and not right next to you there is no need for ear defenders which is another one to chalk up against the petrol. If I was to criticise anything I'd say that the rotating joint at the head makes it feel like if you're not careful in handling you could easily break it as there's a lot of plastic involved but so far it has stood up to everything. As for it's power/cutting strength vs a petrol, I find that against hefty conifers it does not struggle one bit and I have yet to jam/stall it out. I use a mixture of 4.0Ah and 1.5 Ah batteries with this and I find that I can easily get my whole garden (LOT of conifers) without needing to charge any batteries on the fly.Read full review

Awkward trigger action. The unit is top heavy, poorly balanced. The unit is ok on soft new growth but cannot deal with even slightly thicker older growth. Lacks power even with a brand new fully charged 5.0ah battery fitted. I have many other Dewalt cordless power tools and am happy with those, so was surprised at how poorly this tool performed.

Excellent product. I have the normal battery operated hedge trimmer and that works very well , almost 1 hours cutting from a single charge on a 5Ah battery. Think this will be similar quality. Balance and feel are just about right and cutting as impressive as the normal DeWalt model.

Overall it's a solid hedge trimmer that gives a really clean cut and doesn't labour on dense conifer growth like some. Like other reviewers the main disappointment was the movement in the cutting head. It really needs to be solid if you want to achieve a clean finish first time

Sadly, the Dewalt pole hedge pruner is not up to Dewalt's usual high standards. The main issue I have with it is that branch material does not easily slip into the cutter because the ends of the cutter teeth are the wrong shape and prevent the easy guidance between the teeth as do most other hedge trimmers. Also the angle adjustment is weak and locates into position poorly. The trigger seems awkwardly placed and the pruner does not extend.
