Fabulous value budget phone running Android 11

An outright purchase for just £145 including delivery! Nice bright screen with good contrast and vibrant colours. Surprisingly good quality sound and enough volume for my needs, from the onboard speakers. More than adequate memory and processing power for my everyday working and personal requirements. Chunkier in the hand or pocket than most other phones, but this is due to having a large capacity battery, which I find can easily cope with 24 hours of moderate to heavy use, without needing to re-charge. Feels well-made and solid. My only disappointment is the lack of NFC (for contactless Google Pay transactions) which my previous 2017 Moto E4 Plus had!

Basic but overpriced and not of the quality expected from Motorola

Overall a fairly good phone with a few drawbacks: notifications appear to work on a random basis, even when all notifications are switched on; very slow to start after being turned off; speaker extremely tinny and harsh; notification icons at the top are almost too small to see, especially signal strength; rear cameras of only basic quality, worst of all the signal strength/antenna is pretty appalling and not much better than a cheap dumb phone. This phone is a little overpriced when taking into account the above. Shop around for better bargains.

  • Motorola G8

I've had previously had the Motorola G7 and loved it. So decided to go for the upgrade . Although a little bit different the battery life is excellent and the camera is also better too. Like the Dolby speaker which is also a plus. On the downside I find the screen swipe back a little bit annoying but saying that it's nothing really . I would recommend this phone. 🤪

  • My best mobile phone so far -- with Android 11

This model (my wife and I each have one now) has many excellent features including a good screen, a battery that seems to be able to last up to three days depending on use (not yet tested!) enough memory to meet my needs so far (but space for possible memory extensions in the sim holders), slots for two sims if desired, not 5G ready, but I don't miss that. The sound quality is good for a phone, but it is not as light and compact as previous phones I've had -- with lower specs of course. It supports good quality sound on good headphones. The phone arrived with Android 10 but soon upgraded itself (with my permission) to Android 11. The question above "is it compact?" is very stupid, as compactness is a matter of degree. This phone is smaller and lighter than some and bigger and heavier than others (e.g. my old Moto G3 was smaller). This one easily fits into most jacket pockets. I have so far used it mainly with wifi at home, so I don't know how well it would cope with mobile networks. My wife has used hers successfully on the EE netowrk. The camera is much better than her old MotoG7(power) I don't like the new default Android controls (requiring different ways of sliding app windows on the screen), but found that the old "three button" mechanism could be restored. Unfortunately Android has now become so complex with so many options available on this phone that I don't know how many good or bad features I have not yet tried. A very large collection of apps is available.

  • A good, solid, reliable phone

I'm not a heavy user so the battery lasts for about 3 days. When its down to 30% I recharge and the USB C will recharge it in about 1 hour. This is the 4th Moto phone that I have had, and been pleased with all of them. It works in a very similar way to the previous models. I don't game and only use it as a phone, text, emails, and a few Apps and a camera. I consider this to be a good, solid, reliable phone.

  • Makes me want to come back to Android.

Been an Apple fan all these years. Wanted a burner phone for a second number. I’m surprised how far android has come and Motorola have done it so well with this phone. And at this price this is too much kit ! Pleasantly surprised.

  • Gotta love Moto

Great cost effective phone if you want to do basic smart phone things. Most apps are free to download ( some with ads ☹️) . Why spend hundreds of pounds when one & a half hundred will do.

  • Upgrade from G4 to G8 Motorola

Such a great budget phone, I have gone from a G4 to the G8 and what a difference..... Camera on G4 not worth a pic but great on the G8 and are not even a comparison if that is important after all it's a phone primarily, but signal, wi-fi battery and general usage are brilliant, charge every 2 or 3 days
