Notes2009 collection of Japanese '60s pop from the Big Beat International label. After their acclaimed GS I Love You volumes, it's the girls turn, as they examine the distaff side of the country's remarkable GS pop scene with Nippon Girls. 25 tracks.
This is a fun album from a time when almost any music that was marketed was at least passable.
I bought this CD for one track in particular and found that several others are also quite good.
Won't be playing the whole thing too often, but that's true of a lot of the recordings I have.
If you understand Japanese, that might either help or be a problem...
Only those who do will learn the full truth.
Since I don't understand it I'm safe from knowing too much.
Recording quality seems pretty consistent throughout,
and most of the songs have better bass than a lot of other material from the same period,
so it isn't 'tinny'; rather, it is full and relatively well balanced.
On some tracks the stereo effects are quite strong,
with certain instruments hard-panned to one side or the other.
If you've never heard that before, let me say "Welcome To The 1960s!"
Good 16-page booklet, too, with pictures and some info on the "girls".
