In this publication is an insight on the North British Locomotive CO-built Type 2 D6100 diesel-electrics. A total of 58 examples were built as part of the so-called Modernisation Plan of British Railways between 1958 and 1960 while the British Locomotive Co at Glasgow may have been achieved worldwide success in its global supplies for steam traction while their attempts to enter the diesel business may been the cause of it's demise. Much had been written about these NBLs as so-called in Scotland but the author delves in deeper into the these machines with a motley collection of accounts and photos class by class. Many of the photos are a mixture of shed close-ups and action scenes. Sometimes there are scenes of locomotives in store as there were technical issues with their MAN engines that lead to some being rebuilt with Paxman engines while the author states that the best solution would have been to modify the existing MAN engines. Alas, it was too little too late for the decline of traffic was the actual reason for their early demise. There are some downsides about the book but these are only minor.

  • Amazing insight - couldn't put it down.

Very good information source, the writer has obviously committed considerable time and effort to ensure accuracy. An amazing insight into this much-maligned class of loco.
