Just about Tom Russell's best
Russell has done a slew of albums over the last 30-odd years, and it's hard to keep up. But this one is one of his very best. The title track is a homage to NY's storied Chelsea Hotel, or an imagined someplace like it. There's a song about Dylan Thomas, and a wonderful 'magic realism' piece "The Last Time I Saw Hank" -- as in Williams no doubt, but which spins off and circles back to Russell's own family history. A genius piece of writing.
