  • Stuffed with exquisitely ridiculous situations....brilliant Durrell.

The British naturalist Gerald Durrell is best known for his GCE text My Family and Other Animals, but he also wrote a large number of other books, many of them describing his journeys to faraway countries to bring back animals for British zoos. Three Singles to Adventure takes its title from a set of tickets that Durrell purchased at the start of his adventure, buying passage for himself and two eccentric companions to the tiny dot on the map of Adventure in Guiana,South America (first published in 1954). A superb read which is funny from start to finish.

  • There is something not right in paying for three tickets to Adventure

When I was just 12 my English teacher recommended this book to me because of my interest and love of animals. Perhaps the best recommendation I ever got from a teacher. It started me reading many more Gerald Durrell books but this one perhaps tops the lot and "My Family and Other animals" the school course text book the bottom. I purchased this book for a student and potential veterinarian nurse hoping she would read more.
