Wardale vs. The Imagination
If you want to discover the background to the renowned young people stories of the '30s, you have few sources to turn to: Christina Hardyment plus one or two others: this is one. Recommended as a source of such hard-to-find material. Beware, though, that once having read them, the hard facts do not shatter the credible illusions of the imagination. Thankyou.
