About this product

Product Information

'One of the best first-hand accounts of combat that I've ever read' Andy McNab We all saw it at once. Half a dozen voices screamed 'Grenade!' simultaneously. Then everything went into slow motion. The grenade took an age to travel through its 20 metre arc. A dark, small oval-shaped package of misery the size of a peach ... April 2004- Dan Mills and his platoon of snipers fly into southern Iraq, part of an infantry battalion sent to win hearts and minds. They were soon fighting for their lives. Back home we were told they were peacekeeping. But there was no peace to keep. Because within days of arriving in theatre, Mills and his men were caught up in the longest, most sustained fire fight British troops had faced for over fifty years. This awe-inspiring account tells of total war in throat-burning winds and fifty-degree heat, blasted by mortars and surrounded by heavily armed militias. For six months, they fought alone- isolated, besieged and under constant enemy fire. Their heroic stand a modern-day Rorke's Drift.

  • Sniper One - The true account of shear bravery and resolve

Firstly, the book is extremely well written. Whilst I do not know for sure, I don't believe that it is Ghost written. There is a complete absence of Gung Ho but, by the same token there is humour and extreme bravery and, something I was not expecting, compassion for fellow comrades. This book was recommended to me and for that I thank my elder son. From day one, the dreadful experience of what was close encounter fighting begins and continues throughout. A reader must remember that this not fiction, it is not, in my opinion at all embellished; It is terrifying to say the very least and an absolute credit to all the soldiers involved. To perhaps help to understand the fighting in the middle east, this book must be read.

  • is as it says on the front.

almost a compelling page turner. base don actual events and soldiers giving one mans account of incidents and conditions when under fire. good descriptive writing and joined up history on real area or a war zone giving attitude of soldiers under fire and living condition with a little local 'attitude' thrown in. a boys own type of read. ideal if sitting on a beach or on a long flight etc as time flies when reading this. well worth recommending.

  • Live with a platoon of Snipers.

I have several books on Snipers. Most of the cover sniping as a concept and cover the history of sniping. This book is about an event in time that most of us have recent memories of. It takes you into the life of a platoon and it's members. Recommended.

  • Awesome Read

An awesome read where the reality of war and the sacrifice made by hero’s is brought home. With a touch of humour to distract from the horror of war this story strikes the perfect balance to bring you a truthful insight of war.
