About this product

Product Information

As an economic hit man (EHM) in the '60s and '70s, covertly recruited by the US National Security Agency, John Perkins helped further American imperial interests in countries such as Ecuador, Panama, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. He tried to write this book four times but was threatened or bribed each time to halt. The events of 9/11 - a direct result of the activities of EHMs in the 1970s - finally forced him to confront the role he played himself, and to reveal the truth to the rest of the world.CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HITMAN has become a word-of-mouth bestseller in the US. It has been called the book that finally 'connects the dots, the book that best explains what is really going on in the world'.Once you've read it you will find yourself recommending it to everyone you know. It can truly change the way you view the world. As one US reader writes- 'I feel that this is not just a book - it is an event, with powerful cultural and political ramifications. This book turns our understanding of history upside down, and I implore you to read it as soon as you possibly can. The more people who are aware, the more easily change can brought about.'

  • Withering expose of US foreign policy from someone involved in it.

An expose of American foreign policy from Kermit Roosevelt's CIA intervention in Iran to remove the democracy of Mossadegh and replace it with the dictatorship of the Shah to the ongoing problems in South America particularly the travesty of Panama and Ecuador at US hands. A book written form the viewpoint of a 'hitman' tasked with getting countries to take on huge amounts of debt for 'development' from the world Bank and IMF crippling them in cycle of unrepayable debt. This policy was done to facilitate the cheap expropriation of the country's assets. This shameless extraction for profit at the expense of the countries exploited is laid bare here by John Perkins who took many years to extract himself from the lucrative job employed by a major US firm called Main. His experience helps to explain why countries with huge natural resources remain locked into a system that has brought about ecological disaster and economic hardship and the subsequent litany of puppet regimes throughout South America. It will also shed light on the US/Western powers attack on countries like Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela and the Western media's collusion in perpetuating the propaganda promoting such an egregious system posing as the fight for democracy.
