Product Information
Industrial South Yorkshire in Pictures is a collection of photographs from the Mike Walters Archive, which holds over 27,000 pictures. Mike was born in January 1933, in Mexborough. He became immersed in photography at an early age, as his father was a commercial photographer. In 1955 he set up his own business, M R Walters & Associates, and quickly built up a reputation and his client bank widened. He was regularly commissioned to do work for British Steel, Hadfields, Simon Carves, The National Coal Board, Co-operative Societies, Danish Bacon and Kier Construction. His early work was of South Yorkshire, but he soon started to undertake assignments throughout the rest of the world including Malwai, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Canada, the United States as well as many countries throughout Europe. Mike's work was recognised in 1986 when he received the National Architectural Photographic Award, issued by the British Institute of Professional Photography for a view of London. His own passion was centred around the industrial revolution and church architecture, of which he built up an extensive photographic record which he intended to incorporate into his own book. Sadly he died before he managed to achieve this ambition.Like his father before him, Paul Walters carried on much in the same way with his own commercial studio and international clientele. He hoped that by allowing some of his father's photographs to be published, many of which date back to the fifties, it would bring back a flood of memories of times gone by, to people living in South Yorkshire.Product Identifiers
