Product Information

Mark Melvin is the winner of the 2005 Crosby Homes Manchester Art Prize, an annual award for outstanding new talent, this year selected by curator Claire Doherty. Melvin works predominantly with video and performance, and often features in his own artworks, investigating his role as performer, director or choreographer. Music, especially American Minimalist music, has influenced his practice, and he has adopted similar cyclical and repetitive compositional tactics in his work, exploring the relationship between sound and image. The element of human participation means that his work often has an immediacy and humorous edge. Melvin has recently graduated from Glasgow School of Art and this will be his first solo publication, which includes images of his new work at Manchester Art Gallery, a DVD with a selection of his recent work and a biography.
