Ignition coil
On fitting the new coil and setting the gap, I found that when I tried to tighten the screws the coil moved and the gap opened. The new coil was not suffiently engineered to sit squarely on the seating. I tried a dozen times to fit it to the point where the fixing terminals were breaking down. Saw saved from scrapheap
Bearing mind the Stihl 171 is only a budget model and my example has done a lot of work , I decided to risk fitting a cheaper part fom ebay myself ,rather than invest in dealer workshop time and prices.
