Product Information
Ray Holmes joined the RAF Volunteer Reserve in 1936, and throughout World War II, flew many different aircraft. This autobiography examines his flying career, particularly in the Hurricane when he was the first fighter pilot to shoot down a German bomber over London in the Battle of Britain. The book also looks at the author's sweeps over France, protecting convoys, and how he was sent to Murmansk for five months to teach the Russians how to fly Hurricanes. When he returned from Russia, Ray Holmes became involved in photographic reconaissance, photographic targets in Germany from six miles high in his specially equipped Spitfire. Towards the end of the war, he flew as King's messenger for Winston Churchill to Berlin where Churchill was planning the Potsdam Conference.Product Identifiers
