the ultimate pocket book encouragement to make the most of every day
This, Edward Fitzgerald's first English translation of the Rubaiyat, is, I believe, the most emotive and poetic ever rendered. It is perhaps the ultimate imploration to make the most of every day: "carpe diem". This particular edition is my favourite, it is "pocket book" size, convenient to travel with me. The 16-or-so full page illustrations of some verses are themselves quite lovely. The Rubaiyat has provided me with comfort and consolation throughout my life. I always like to have a copy of this edition to hand.
