A later addition to the Isle of Wight Central empire was the Newport, Godshill and St Lawrence Railway (opened to St Lawrence in 1897 and to Ventnor Town in 1900). The Isle of Wight Central operated this line until 1913; it was then bought by the Central.
This book is an essential aquisition if you are interested in the history of railways on the Isle of Wight. It is a heavy bound volume with 288 pages of fascinating detail - how the railways came to be built what the problems were, the characters involved, the engines and the rolling stock. My only criticism is the print is a bit small and there are no colour illustrations. Apart from that, Maycock and Silsbury have produced a definitive reference book which demonstrates they are the authority on the subject.
