He lives in Colorado with his wife, author Rebecca Moesta. The final culmination of the story will follow in Sandworms of Dune. Frank Herbert would surely be delighted and proud of this continuation of his vision.

  • Feeble attempt to realise Frank Herbert's plans for Dune 7. Lacks vision, style, dramatic sense, and consistency. Lots of repetition & explanation.

The book tells a competent story in workable prose. However, even after the early recap section, there's a lot of repetition and not a lot of drama until the latter part of the book. Although several of the canonical Dune books also suffered from such dramatic deficits, they compensated with high quality internal monologues and posing Socratic questions without providing answers, thereby challenging the reader. Here, one feels as though one's been kicked out of the graduate philosophy seminar and sent back to the junior school remedial class for the afternoon story session. There are internal inconsistencies, as well as conflicts with the earlier books of Herbert senior. Brandon Sanderson's brilliant achievement, culminating in A Memory of Light, showed how it is possible to complete a dead author's work, while remaining faithful to his vision, narrative, and style. One would prefer a synopsis of Herbert senior's notes for Dune 7 to this weak effort.
